It is nested at the heart of its twenty hectares park. The residence was rebuilt from the remaining of a previous fort in the eighteenth century. Its strategic position between Normandy and Brittany has made it a key location since the roman era; during Middle Age and the Ancient Regime it was housing a Lord of Low and High Justice. Fabrication of glass in the Gobleterie (next to the Haye d’Irée) also started in Middle Age. In the nineteenth century the buildings of the Royal Glass Factory were built.
