The castle of La Haye d’Irée is built in granite and stands on top of a hill overlooking the surrounding countryside. It is nested at the heart of its twenty hectares park.
The residence was rebuilt from the remaining of a previous fort in the eighteenth century. Its strategic position between Normandy and Brittany has made it a key location since the roman era; during Middle Age and the Ancient Regime it was housing a Lord of Low and High Justice.
Fabrication of glass in the Gobleterie (next to the Haye d’Irée) also started in Middle Age. In the nineteenth century the buildings of the Royal Glass Factory were built. The Leschevin de Prévoisin family purchased the castle in 1837. |

La Haye d’Iree was built at the crossing of ancient Roman roads linking Rennes, Jublains, Vitre and Courseul; the Romans had established a castellum (fortified camp) at the domain.
The fortress protected Britany from Normand and French invasions. The actual manor is thus at a strategic location to discover the numerous interesting touristic spots that suround it. |
